Intermediate Command and Staff Course Participants at Kitalya Mini-Max Prison

Participants of the ongoing 4th Prisons Intermediate Command and Staff Course have conducted a benchmarking tour of Kitalya Mini-Max Prison in Wakiso District, widely regarded as the best prison facility in the East and Central African region.

The tour, led by the Officer-in-Charge,  Hassan Walangira alongside other Senior officers, provided an in-depth look at the facility’s advanced systems and operations.

The delegation, comprising 58 carefully selected Prison Officers from various units, explored key areas of Kitalya Mini-Max Prison, including its garment factory, which produces uniforms for both staff and inmates, modern healthcare systems, inmate welfare programs, state-of-the-art property storage facilities, accommodation wards and advanced security and surveillance systems.

The group also examined the prison’s robust rehabilitation and recreational programs, such as formal education through a fully equipped school, a computer laboratory, and a well-stocked library, designed to support inmate reformation and reintegration.

The visit is an important component of the course, whose programs aims to enhance analytical thinking, command capabilities, and supervisory skills among participants, equipping them to tackle complex challenges in prison management.
