NEWS– Isingiro District has become the latest Authority to announce and declare livestock quarantine restrictions over the Foot and Mouth Disease which broke out in the area.
The announcement was made in a communication made by the Commissioner of Animal Health in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries to the Isingiro Chief Administrative Officer in a letter dated January 19th 2024.
The Commissioner of Health Dr Anna Rose Ademun said that the Foot and Mouth Disease has broken out in Kabingo, Mbaare and Rushasha Subcounties and therefore the quarantine restrictions takes immediately.
Dr Andemun therefore said that movement of cattle, goats, sheep and their products from, to, through and withing Isingiro District are forthwith prohibited until further notice.
She also made it categorically clear that livestock markets, slaughter of animals, and loading grounds of animals have been closed in the entire district with immediate effect.
Dr Andemun asked the Local Government administrators, District Veterinary Officer, Extension Workers, LCs, Subcounty and Parish Chiefs and all enforcement officers and the entire concerned general public to ensure that quarantine restrictions are enforced to control the spread of the Foot and Mouth Disease in Isingiro District.
The letter is addressed to the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, the Minister of State for Animal Industry and the Resident District Commissioner Isingiro District.
