NEWS– The Kanungu District Khadhi Sheikh Abdullah Rajab Mpabuka has asked Muslim leaders across the district to preach wealth creation message to the people and ensure that all the idle land is utilised for coffee growing in order to support the development of Islam.
Sheikh Mpabuka made the remarks on Saturday June 8th 2024 while speaking at the official handover of a 7 classroom block, a mosque and 3 lockup shops at Katete Muslim Nursery and Primary School in Katete Sub County in Kanungu District.
The structures which were donated by Nile Cultural and Social Development Association a Non Governmental Organisation based in Iganga District cost an estimated Ugx 700 million.
Sowedi Byekwaso who represented Nile Cultural and Social Development Association said that the donation is aimed at encouraging a conducive learning environment for learners.
Sheikh Mpabuka hailed the donors for fulfilling their pledge to construct the structures which also include a 3 stance pit latrine and 3 water tanks that can store up to 9000 liters of water stressing that the structures are a giant developmental infrastructure that will go a long way in improving the welfare of the community around the area.
Katete Muslim Nursery and Primary School started in 2015 with 18 pupils and currently has a total of about 370 pupils from Nursery Class to Primary Seven.
Speaking at the same event, the Kanungu District Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Delegate Hajji Ally Rugomwa hailed the government of Uganda for putting in place a secure environment which has enabled people to embark on developmental activities like the construction of new classroom blocks at Katete Muslim Nursery and Primary School and thanked UMSC leadership for allowing such projects to be brought to Kanungu District.
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Chairman in Kanungu Sheikh Abdullah Nzigira said that the school has become a pride of Kanungu District and not only to the Muslim community but to all the people who have found it useful and strategically accessible for their children.
While speaking at the same event, Kanungu District Inspector of Schools in Charge of Special Needs, Ms Jessica Arinaitwe appealed to parents to become stakeholders in maintaining the development of their schools.
Ms Arinaitwe who represented the District Education Officer Shaban Adam and made it categorically clear that the school development can become successful if the 3 pillars, the parents, students and teachers cooperate and hit at one target.
She said that the Education department was happy the the Muslim Community had come up with ideas to establish excellent infrastructure at Katete Muslim Nursery and Primary school and assured that they will be supported.
At the function, Kinkizi East MP Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi was represented by Entare George Kahirima and contributed Ugx 500,000 while Kanungu District LC 5 Chairman Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo was represented by Katete LC 3 chairman Friday and contributed Ugx 200,000 for the purchase of twin desks and Friday promised that the Subcounty will consider giving them the same desks in the next financial year.
Katete Mosque Chairman Issa Kassim hailed Kanungu District Muslim Supreme Council leadership led by Sheikh Abdallah Mpabuka and the Chairman Sheikh Abudallah Nzigira for lobbying for the project and decided to bring it to their community and thanked Rehema Jibril for organising the function to make it a success.
