NEWS– A case in which a section of residents from Bwesumbu Sub-county had sued government over alleged failure to compensate them during the implementation of the Community Agriculture Infrastructure Improvement Programme (CAIIP) has been dismissed with costs.
In 2014, Government implemented the CAIIP project in Kasese district which was focusing on the improvement of community access roads, building of markets structures and equipping farmers with agro processing facilities.
But recently, Guma and Co. Advocates processed a law suit against the Attorney General of Uganda and others over the alleged failure to compensate the people whose pieces of land and other property were affected during the project implementation.
The law firm accused the Attorney General of Uganda, Kasese District Local Government, Nippon Parts Uganda Limited and Net World Uganda Limited on behalf of 1,019 affected persons from Bwesumbu Sub-county.
Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, the Kasese District Chairperson told the press that the Local Government engaged her lawyers to follow up the case.
According to him, when they revisited the terms and conditions in the memorandum of understanding, they observed that government had no case to answer and the matter was dismissed with costs.
He called on the residents to always withstand the effects associated with development that comes in their respective areas.
