KAMPALA- The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Among, has announced that the swearing-in of Kawempe North MP-elect Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi will take place tomorrow at 12:00 noon in her chambers.

Speaker Among said that she had received an official communication from the Electoral Commission (EC) confirming Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi victory.

“I have received official communication from the electoral commission along with a copy of the gazetted results. I will proceed to swear in the Member of Parliament-elect for Kawempe North in my chambers tomorrow at 12:00 noon. I would like to congratulate Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi on his victory,” Speaker Among said.

This update comes amid concerns from the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership over delays in the gazettement of Nalukoola’s victory, which had left him unable to take his oath and assume office.

The Electoral Commission officially gazetted Nalukoola yesterday evening, clearing the way for his swearing-in which some opposition Members of Parliament said was long overdue.

Nalukoola won the Kawempe North by-election after the seat fell vacant following the expulsion of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, who lost his position over prolonged absence from Parliament.

With the swearing-in now scheduled, National Unity Platform supporters will be keenly watching Nalukoola’s next steps as he takes over representation of the constituency.
