KAMPALA- The Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA and Uganda Red Cross Associate have called on well-wishers to donate relief support to the victims of Kamwokya Kyamuka fire victims.
A fire occurred in Kyamuka-Kamwokya, on Friday morning, resulting in the death of 15-year-old Kiiza Melisa Catherine, a student at City Side School in Kyebando, but also destroying several properties.
Led by the Kampala’s lord Mayor Erias Lukwago in partnership with Uganda Red Cross, a donation of non-food items have been given out to the victims of fire outbreak that ravaged tenements at Kisenyi-II (Chamuka) Kamwokya-II Parish, Kampala Central Division.
The Lord Mayor appreciated Uganda Red Cross for their timely interventions whenever emergency situations arise in the City and committed further collaboration in addressing and preventing such occurrences. “We thank the Red Cross for always coming out and helping our people, i want to call upon other well-wishers to come and help these people, who have nowhere to sleep but also something to eat is a problem” Lukwago said.
The KCCA Director Gender and Social Services Ms. Shillah Birungi, stated that besides the items donated today that amongst others included, blankets, tarpaulins, jerry cans, utensils and solar lights, further interventions are to be undertaken by the Authority to support the vulnerable victims most especially Women and Child headed households.
The fire outbreak that occurred in the wee hours of 25th October claimed one victim, injured several others with some still hospitalized and left hundreds homeless and destitute.
Present at the occasion to donate the packages to hundreds of victims gathered were City Executive Committee members, Representatives of Uganda Police, Red Cross Management and local leaders.
