Kaberuka being declared nominated by Kanungu District Electoral Commission Returning officer

The incumbent Kinkizi West Member of Parliament Hon James Ruugi Kaberuka, has called upon his former competitors in the party primaries to join hands with him in the forthcoming general elections, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation for the development of the constituency.

Hon Kaberuka made the remarks yesterday at the Kanungu District Headquarters shortly after being officially nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest for another term in Parliament.

He pledged to continue prioritizing key social services for the people of Kinkizi West, including addressing water scarcity in Kihiihi Town, expanding electricity coverage, supporting education initiatives and advocating for the upgrading of the Kanyantorogo -Butogota-Bwindi road to tarmac standard if re-elected.

Later in the afternoon, while addressing his enthusiastic supporters at Ntare Gardens in Kihiihi Town Council, Hon Kaberuka urged residents to remain calm and not to be misled by what he described as false propaganda from his political opponents.and said the electorate should focus on development rather than divisive statements circulating after the primaries.

He encouraged his supporters to engage peacefully in the upcoming campaigns,promising to maintain transparency and dedication as he seeks to complete ongoing development projects that aim to uplift the lives of the people of Kinkizi West.

The nomination of Ho Kaberuka adds momentum to the political atmosphere in Kanungu District and Kinkizi West particularly where several candidates  have been nominated.

Meanwhile the two-day nationwide nomination exercise for Member’s of Parliament and Woman Members of Parliament ended peacefully across Uganda, with Kanungu District recording a total of 18 nominated candidates.

According to the Returning Officer for Kanungu District David Mukundane, the two day exercise went on smoothly due to strong cooperation between the security agencies, media and Electoral Commission Staff and all candidates who turned up met the requirements and we’re successfully nominated.

Mukundane said that 4 candidates were cleared for the Woman MP Seat and these include Betty Kataba Mutabazi for National Resistance Movement, Ms Ziada Akandinda for National Unity Platform, the incumbent Hon Kinsaba Patience Nkunda who was defeated in Primaries was nominated as inndependent and Counsel Esther Majambere Musoke also an independent.

In Kinkizi West Constituency, 6 candidates were nominated and these include Hon James Ruugi Kaberuka for NRM, Brian Atuhaire Betenda for PFF, and four Independents who included John Ndungutse Ngaruye, Safari Christopher, Counsel Steven Turyatunga and Victor Rushokora.

In Kinkizi East Constituency, 8 Candidates were declared duly nominated and these are Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi for NRM, Benedicto Nuwamanya for PFF, Mark Tabaruka for FDC, and five independents who include Counsel Akampa Akampurira, Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, Ms Karungi Ruth Tukahiirwa, Aggrey Naturinda and Alex Byamukama.

Mukundane appreciated the Electoral Commission team, security and media for their support and invited all candidates to the district Electoral Offices to harmonize campaign programs.He also announced that official campaigns will begin on 10th , November 2025.
