NEWS- Youths in Lyantonde District, led by Hon. Enos Kinywamacunda, embarked on a general cleaning exercise in Lyantonde Town over the weekend, promoting sanitation and cleanliness ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
The campaign, spearheaded by Lyantonde Town Council youth and other young people in the district, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of keeping the environment clean.
Maziruda Nakijoba, a youth councilor, applauded the initiative, thanking Hon. Enos Asiimwe for supporting the cause. “We are grateful for the support of our leaders in promoting cleanliness and sanitation in our town,” she said.
Hon. Ngabo Alyosious of Kaliro ward A/B challenged the youth to take responsibility for their communities and be part of decision-making processes, especially in environmental conservation and sanitation. “I urge the youth to take charge and be part of the solution in keeping our communities clean and conserving nature,” he said.
Hon. Asiimwe Enos, who initiated the “Keep Lyantonde Town and Hospital Clean” campaign, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining sanitation and hygiene. “We all have a role to play in keeping our town and hospital clean. We will draw a timeline for regular cleaning exercises to ensure sustainability,” he said.
He noted that the campaign would be extended to other areas, including the Hospital which was cleaned earlier this month. “We will make cleaning a quarterly exercise to remind the community of their responsibility in maintaining cleanliness,” he added.
The cleaning exercise was seen as a step towards promoting a culture of sanitation and hygiene in Lyantonde District.
