NEWS- The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of Byamugisha Pio alias Kyeba a resident of Rutoro cell Rutugunda parish in Kirima Sub-county.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the death saying that it is alleged that the deceased has been staying in Rutoro village as a casual labourer for about 10 years now and had never gone back to his home area in lbanda district.
The deceased was last seen on Friday the 31st January 2025 at Rutoro Trading centre where he was staying alone in the home of one Twesigye Posiano who has another home in Nyamirama where he works from and could come to Rutoro on rare occasions.
It is reported that yesterday Kiconco Annah the wife of Twesigye went to pick vegetables from their garden near their house where the deceased was staying, she noticed that his door was still closed which was unusual and this prompted her to check on the deceased.
She called him several times but there was no response and she decided to report to the area chairman who went with her together with other locals to the house of the deceased and upon breaking the door they discovered him lying dead across his bed naked while his legs touching the floor.
The police at Kirima police post were notified and the scene of crime was visited and documented and statements were obtained from relevant witnesses and the body picked and delivered at Katate Health Centre 4 for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Meanwhile the Police in Rukiga are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 30 year old man identified as Niwamanya Victor Simpi a resident of Kirimbe village in Kandago Parish in Bukinda Sub-county who was murdered after he allegedly cut and critically injured by Niwamanya Ivan.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that this took place when Niwamanya Siimpi and others were at the bar owned by Banet, when they developed a misunderstanding that resulted into a fight and the deceased who was armed with a panga it used to cut one Niwamanya on the neck.
Niwamanya was however rushed to Muhanga for First Aid where he was referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital where he is still admitted and thereafter, an angry mob mobilized themselves and attacked Niwamanya Siimpi at his home and lynched him to death.
Maate explained that a report was made at Rukiga Central Police Station by Tugume Jack the chairman Local Council III Bukinda Sub-county and the Police visited the two crime scenes and documented and statements were recorded from key witnesses and the body was conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination and later the body was handed over to the relatives for a decent burial and no arrest has been made.
Maate said that investigations are still going on with the view of identifying the persons who could have participated in the lynching and have charged accordingly.
