307 UPDF Infatry Brigade Commander Lt Col Robert Nahamya leads a team of soldiers to clean Kihihi Town Council

KANUNGU- The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces from the 307 Brigade at Mburameizi in Kanungu District led by Lt Col Robert  Nahamya have participated in the community general cleaning of Kihihi Town council and Buhoma Town Council as part of the 44th Tarehe Sita celebrations.

Lt Col Nahamya who led the exercise said that the exercise sign of thanking the communities through giving back to people and gesture of the Army showing its part of being the people’s Army.

TheTarehe Sita which falls on 6th February is preceeded by the Army week and this year’s celebrations will be held in Kyotera District in Greater Masaka Sub-Region.

While speaking shortly after the cleaning exercise, Kihihi Town Council Mayor Sostine Atwine Buregyeya hailed the UPDF for being a peaceful Army and able to give back to the community by cleaning the Town.

In Buhoma Town near the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the cleaning was led by the Commanding Officer of the 23rd Infatry Battalion Major John Twizuke and were joined by Ugsnda Police, Uganda Wildlife Authority officers and students from Uganda Nursing School Bwindi.

Buhoma Town Council Mayor Bashejja Moses thanked the UPDF for the work done and praised them for being people centred force.

According to the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Hon Jacob Oboth-Oboth the 44th Tarehe Sita Anniversary will be celebrated in the Greater Masaka region.

This annual event is organised by the government andthe Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), aims to honour the spirit of community partnership and Pan-African solidarity.

The celebration will be held under the theme “Celebrating Pan-African Solidarity and the Peoples’ Sacrifice in Struggle for Freedom and Democracy for Socio-economic Transformation,” will feature activities that give back to local communities.
