Bright Nimusiima at his graduation at MUST

MBARARA- The Mbarara city and Western Uganda media fraternity on Friday December 15th 2023 woke up to heartbreaking news regarding the untimely demise of Bright Nimusiima, a dedicated journalist who has been working with a Mbarara City based Revival Radio.

Information obtained by this reporter indicates that Nimusiima was discovered lifeless on Friday morning in his rented residence in Biafra cell, Kamukuzi ward in Mbarara city.

Born in Ntungamo District, Nimusiima had just completed a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in May this year. His commitment to Mbarara Christian-based radio spanned four months.

It is said that Nimusiima’s death came to be known after a friend tried calling his phone but all his repeated calls went unanswered. The friend thereafter decided to check out Nimusiima at his residence in Kiyanja. It was here that he was welcomed by a door locked from inside and a stench smell from his house.

“Like 3 hours back, my best friend Bright was found dead in his room in Kiyanja Mbarara city. His death came to be known after his friend came to check on him after trying on his phones but were unable to reach. On reaching where he was staying, the friend found his door locked from inside and a smell from his house” said a friend on social media.  

As of the latest update, Mbarara city police had not yet released an official statement regarding this heart-wrenching incident though they took the body to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

By press time, burial arrangements were ongoing, we shall keep you posted with details regarding the incident.

Casket containing remains of Simon Byamukama

Meantime, the body of a man identified as SimonByamukama who committed suicide by drowning was on Thursday laid to rest in his ancestral home in Ruhoko cell, Katungamo parish, Rugarama greatersub county in Rushenyi-Ntungamo district.

The late Byamukama drowned himself in River Rwizi in Mbarara on Sunday over undisclosed issues.

It is alleged that the late Byamukama was last seen on Saturday by residents from Kakoba division in Mbarara city, who said they were with him at a certain party in the city.

The landlady of the late and the deceased’s wife Ms Jasper Byamukama said that it was unfortunate to hear the heartbreaking news on Sunday that the person they were with at the party on Saturday drowned in River Rwizi.

The wife said that since they got the weird news of her husband on Sunday, efforts were made to retrieve the body but all in vain until on Wednesday when the boda boda rider landed on his body at a certain bridge along river Rwizi. She eulogized his husband who was a focused man but she didn’t know what transpired on him (husband) to commit suicide.

According to the family source, Mbarara City Police officers were informed to document the scene of crime and the body was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital for postmortem after which it was handed over to relatives for burial.

At the burial, relatives including; Geoffrey Bunaana, an uncle of the late, brothers and sisters, sisters’ in-law among others eulogized the late as a hardworking man, caring and a man of vision. Bunaana added that the deceased has been a pillar to the family since the demise of his father.

Rev Capt. Johnson Mwesigye who led the service charged the mourners to stop disseminating false information over issues they don’t know stressing that all he heard before, about the demise of Byamukama was totally different compared to speeches at the burial.

Hon Naboth Mpirirwe representing Ntungamo Sub County who is eyeing the Ntungamo district LC5 seat, who spoke on behalf of the government urged men to take charge of responsibilities not leaving everything to the women hence appealing to the grieved wife to be more prayerful to God who is above all.

Mpirirwe added that Ntungamo district has got Ugx 1 billion for rehabilitation of roads but the money will do the work in phases pointing out that they had halted the road works because of the rainy season.

The late Simon Byamukama is survived by two children, a boy and a girl. He died at the age of 37 years.
