The Minister of State for Trade Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi is set to meet his Democratic Republic of Congo counterpart to resolve the outstanding barriers that are hindering the smooth flow of goods and persons between the two countries.
Gen Mbadi made the pronouncement during his recent visits to the two borders of Mpondwe in Kasese and Ntoroko, which serve as trade border crossings between the two countries.
During his visit, Gen Mbadi discovered that the two borders points though upgraded to one-stop Border Posts in 2022, they are not fully operational with traders still facing some challenges in conducting business with Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Border agencies led by Uganda Revenue Authority informed the Minister that Demicratic Republic of Congo remains non-cooperative in implementing the East African Community Common Market Protocol.
The Democratic Republic of Congo still charge Ugandans US 50 dollar as visa fees, yet Uganda scrapped these fees.
It was reported that at Ntoroko, Democratic Republic of Congo does not attend the joint Border committee meetings set up to streamline the operations and the border.
