Rwamirama being taken around the 4 Acre Model Farm owned by Kyatuheire

The Youth in Kanungu District under their umbrella, the NRM Bazzukulu for Parish Development Model are in jubilation after receiving Ugx 30 million from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to boost their piggery project.

The money was yesterday announced to the Youths who converged at Meizimera Eco Resort Hotel in Kihihi Town Council by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi who represented President Museveni and was accompanied by the Minister of State for Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries Hon Bright Rwamirama where they launched the NRM Kanungu Bazzukulu Youth.

The Ministers commended the Youth in Kanungu for their initiatives to transform their lives by starting an impactful project aimed at transforming their lives.

Earlier before the launch, the Minister Rwamirama toured the two youth projects of piggery, fishing, and Hon Kyatuheire’s 4 Acre Model Farm and Moses Sabiti Zero grazing farm in Kibimbiri.

Minister Rwamirama said that he was impressed by the projects in Kanungu specifically started by the youth that include the Fish project earlier started by Kayodea, the Piggery project have not only empowered the Youth by increasing their incomes but have created a chain of employment opportunities amongst themselves.

The NRM Abazzukulu for Parish Development Model Group piggery project started in 2017 by a group of 8 youth with support from former Kanungu District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Jacqueline Kyatuheire who is the current NRM National Deputy Treasurer.

According the Group Chairperson Turihohanwe Hillary, the NRM Abazukulu for Parish Development Model started with 3 pigs but currently the group has ensured that 117 are distributed and 104 of them given to different youth from all over the district.

Tururihohabwe said that this has been achieved through community mobilisation and guidance from the local leadership and a total of 800 youth have been recruited from all over the district and these have received training to empower them with lifetime skills where each will get a startup piglet and access to Cooperative Savings Scheme.

He said that the Group has consistently managed a piggery breeding cycle that enhance production to benefit the youth not only to Kanungu Youth but Kigezi Sub-region as a whole.

So far a piggery demonstration site to be used for training purposes and outreach for youth and other people I from all over Kanungu District a move that demands more financial support.

Minister Rwamirama who took time to visit to visit all the Youths projects appreciated that they ate agricultural oriented and promised more training’s and benchmarking on top of getting them hybrid breeding piggery and because agriculture is the backbone of the economy and donated Ugx 5 million to the Group.

The Minister who is in charge of Animal Industry also asked the youth to take on their projects especially under Parish Development Model in line with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni message of ‘calculation’ so they can realize more yields.

Minister Rwamirama therefore asked the Youth to diversify their entrepreneurship by venturing in other income generating projects with a view of increasing productivity, by ensuring that they make selection of hybrid seedlings which are also disease resistant and ensure good feeding and apply the right fertilisers.

Minister Baryomunsi hailed the youth for responding to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni call for community transformation of wealth creation and Parish Development Model and invited them to get involved in skills acquisition in order to manage their enterprises and donated Ugx 13 million for the function and another Ugx 5 million to the project and other contributions came from aspiring Kanungu District Women Member of Parliament Esther Majambere who who contributed Ugx 500,000, Ms Betty Namara Kataba contributed Ugx 1 million, Ms Kansiime Honest contributed Ugx 1 million Kinkizi West spiring MP John Ndungutse contributed Ugx 500,000 and Brian Musinguzi contributed Ugx 450,000.

On her part Hon Jacqueline Kyatuheire who provided the seed capital to start the project pledged to lobby for more support to expand the project so that it can benefit all the youth in Kanungu and Kigezi as a Region, she also contributed the hoisting of the event.

Hon Kyatuheire who is known in Kanungu for starting up long lasting yet positive impacting project over many years, thanked the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi for accepting to train the youth in mindset change, ideological orientation and financial literacy and management that has enabled them to manage the project.
