Minds behind the new Political Party

The Society for Peace and Development (SPD), a political party from Bugisu region, has been officially launched in Mbale City with a mission to bring revolutionary change and deliver better services to Ugandans.

Formed in 2006 by Hajji Harshim Abed Mwenyi, a businessman and resident of Mbale, SPD is a fully registered political party with the slogan “Freedom is coming.”

While addressing members, Party President Harshim Mwenyi said SPD will focus on restoring presidential term limits.

“You can’t say you’re the only one with the vision,” he noted, emphasizing that SPD will promote good governance, transparency, human rights, justice, and strong regional relations.

He added that the party will prioritize infrastructural development, empower youth and women, and equip schools with science and technology.

Mwenyi highlighted challenges facing Uganda, including youth unemployment, corruption, a poor education system, climate change, and inadequate healthcare.

“Our youth are forced to seek work in Arab countries. We need to export skilled labor, ensure hospitals are well-stocked with drugs, improve schools and make gas cheaper to reduce deforestation. Leadership cannot be left to one person,” he said.

Abbas Musigire aspiring MP for Iki-Iki Constituency in Budaka district, warned that Uganda risks calamities like those in Sudan, Libya, and Somalia if reforms are not made.

“We can’t be spectators while our country collapses. It’s time to rescue Uganda,” he said.

Namunyolo Ruth Kibuku Woman MP aspirant thanked SPD for welcoming her after she was wounded by NRM.

“In SPD, if someone wins the flag, they won’t declare another person. I was bborn and raised in NRM, but I see nothing good in it,” she said.

Alvin Masuba another candidate carrying SPD flag for MP Elgon County, Bulambuli district pledged to push for better infrastructure in his hard-to-reach constituency.

“We can’t wait for Vision 2040 while our people suffer without roads, clean water, electricity, and quality education. SPD is here for real change,” he said.
