KAMPALA- Families of The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters who were killed during the 2020 riots together with the party leaders have commemorated the death of their loved ones.
Special prayers were held by party members who assembled at the NUP party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kampala together with families that lost people. About 50 Ugandans lost their lives during the 2020 November riots, which took place on both the 19th and 18th.
Ajjara Nakito, the grieving mother of the late Amos Ssegawa, who was tragically shot dead at the Cornerstone building in Kampala, has spoken out about her family’s ongoing struggle for justice and compensation. Despite her loss, Nakito has yet to receive any form of reparation or acknowledgment of her son’s untimely death.
“I want to thank NUP for putting on this day to commemorate our people who were innocently killed for just supporting what they believed. They took my details of my son, but there is no compensation I have ever seen. Nakito narrated”
She, however, noted that she remains determined to continue pursuing justice for her son, who was innocently murdered.

Irene Nankyaa, the widow of Christopher Kayizi, who was shot in Kampala during the riots, poignantly recalls the fateful day her husband was brutally murdered, leaving her a pregnant young widow.
Overcome with emotion, Irene Nankyaa revealed that her husband’s tragic death left her a young widow, alone to care for their three children, without any support or assistance.
“My husband was our sole breadwinner. Now, we’re left with nothing. I struggle to provide even the basic necessities like food for our children. If it weren’t for the kindness of well-wishers and the support from NUP, I don’t know how they would survive,” Irene Nankyaa lamented, her voice trembling with emotion.
