Ntungamo district, partners move to scale up Pediatric TB screening and treatment

NEWS- The Ntungamo district chairman Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba has commended the school managers for being resilient and patient to become good Stewards of public schools in the district.

Mucunguzi revealed that Ntungamo district had been grappling with few staff and others have been care taking for many years which is against the law but assured them to address the issue in this quarter of the financial year.

He pledged to increase the staffing by 70% as the only way to reduce the burden of staff ceiling in government aided schools. The district boss made the remarks during the release of Ntungamo District Primary Leaving Mock examinations held at St Matthew’s Cathedral Kyamate Ntungamo Municipality.

Mucunguzi directed the chief administrative officer to promote and recruit substantial teachers according to a scheme of service to fill the gaps in schools which has crippled the academic performance in the district.

The Chief Administrative Officer Mathius Ndifuna asked the head teachers to always have regulations on their finger tips and make decisions based on education statutes.

The chairman for education and health Ahabwe Bernard Mupenda hailed the LCV for the commitment to improve all schools including constructing 36 water tanks, 4 latrines and renovations which are yet to be done in this financial year.

Mupenda who is also the LCV councilor for Ruhaama Sub County encouraged them to cooperate in order to succeed though working in hard conditions.

The chairperson Ntungamo primary schools head teachers’ Association Katto Emmanuel underscored the need for schools to always send capable and competent examiners in order to harness the professionalism in marking and setting the exams.

Katto noted that the paper was set by a team of professional and knowledgeable UNEB examiners and it was standard.

He noted that science was best performed followed by mathematics, social studies and English but a lot of candidates exhibited incompetence in reading and interpreting concepts.

He noted that 11,807 candidates sat for 2024 mock examinations and 1,669 came in first division,3493 second, 1,817 third division, 3,124 in fourth grade and 1,611 ungraded.

The performance of counties was Kajara came first followed by Ruhaama, Ruhaama East and Rushenyi.

Orikiriza Mercy the inspector of schools urged public and private school managers to double efforts in uplifting performance of their schools.

The assistant Deputy RDC Twakira Daniel Ntoreine commended the schools for performing compared to the previous years and tasked the least performing schools to bench mark from the best ones.

Present were Tuzarirwe Robert and Gumisiriza Francis Ruhinja all District inspectors of schools among others.
