NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri have two suspects in custody allegedly for the murder of a 20 years old boda boda rider identified as Twebaze Martin also known as Kagame a resident of Iterero cell in Kacence Parish in Nyakishenyi Sub county.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate told journalists that the suspects include Byomugabe Chrisostom and Asimwe Amon who are also suspected to have robbed a motorcycle from the deceased together with others still at large.
Maate said that it is alleged that on 30th July 2024, Byomugabe Chrysostom hired the late Twebaze Martin aka Kagame from Kampala Omukiragiro stage for bodaboda in Kacence Parish in Nyakishenyi Subcounty in Rukungiri district on his motorcycle Registration Number UGE 705U to take him to Rubanda District at a fare of Ugx 60.000.
Before he left, the late Twebaze informed a fellow Boda Boda rider identified as Kato Benson that he was coming back the following day of 31st July 2024.
It is reported that while on their way to Rubanda, Byomugabe coordinated with Asiimwe Amon and another yet to be identified person who waited for them at Echuya forest reserve along Kabale – Kisoro road.
When the deceased failed to report back to Nyakishenyi on 31st July 2024 as he had promised, fellow Boda Boda riders raised some suspicion and when they rang on his phone number 0783194569, it wasn’t available on the network.
The same boda boda riders informed their chairman Nuwahereza Martin who also reported a case of disappearance of Twebaze Martin aka Kagame at Police on 2nd August 2024 and a case of disappearance was registered, which is now being investigated as Murder and Aggravated Robbery under reference number CRB 923/2024.
Maate told journalists that the deceased’s sim card of 0783194569 was tracked and it showed that a common caller was 0785342485 and the print out brought in Tel No 0764271122 in the names of Tuyisenge Isaac who was arrested from Kisoro Town in Kisoro district after he was found in possession of the deceased’s motorcycle.
Maate explained that this led to the arrest of Byomugabe Chrysostom who revealed that Twebaze Martin Kagame was murdered at Echuya Forest Reserve and the body dumped in the same forest.
The scene of crime was visited and examined by Regional Scene of Crime Officer and other staff from the districts of Rukungiri and Rubanda and an exhibit of an axe suspected to have been used to kill the deceased was recovered at the crime scene and statements were recorded from witnesses and postmortem examination done and the body handed over to the relatives for burial.
