NEWS– The Police in Rukungiri District have arrested a man identified as Sebikaru William who is alleged to have caused the untimely death of Muhwezi Justus by knocking the motorcycle he was traveling on and ran over him.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that Sebikaru, a coffee dealer in Rukungiri Municipality is now being held at Rukungiri Central Police Station and a case against him was registered under reference CRB 1532/2023 to help the Police in investigations.
Its alleged that Sebikaru used his vehicle and followed a Motorcycle the late Muhwezi was travelling on and knocked him down along Rukungiri – Ntungamo Road and immediately reversed his car and ran over him.
According to Police, Sebikaru is reported to have fled the scene in his vehicle which he later parked and abandoned in Buyanja Town Council where the Police found it and towed it to Rukungiri Central Police Station.
During the burial of Muhwezi on December 21st 2023, the District Police Commander Musa Tibakirana assured the mourners that they were doing all the necessary work to ensure that Sebikaru is arrested to answer for his action.
Elsewhere in Rukiga District, the Police have confirmed that they have arrested Onesimus Tumukunde who is suspected to have killed his father.
Its reported that Tumukunde connived with his mother and they assaulted his father who was the following morning found dead and whereas the woman was arrested immediately, Tumukunde went into hiding.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate however told journalists yesterday that Tumukunde was arrested at Rwahi Stage along Kabale – Mbarara Road in Ntungamo District as he planned to escape to unknown destination and was taken to Rukiga Police Station to be formally charged.
