The Police in Kisoro District are investigating circumstances under which some people were attacked and injured as a result of political clashes.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists yesterday evening that the incident took place last evening at Gasiza Trading Centre Nyarusiza Sub county in Kisoro district and identified the injured victims as Tumwesigye Nelson, Habyarimana Silvan and Sibomana Ronald.
It’s reported that Sam Bitangaro who is contesting for Bufumbira South Parliamentary seat had a rally at Kwanyakwezi Trading Centre and that as he was proceeding to the venue via Gasiza Trading Centre together with his team, they were attacked by the supporters of Alex Niyoonsaba who were armed with pangas, bottles and sticks.
It reported that the angry supporters of Niyonsaba beat up and cut some of the supporters of Sam Bitangaro.
The Kisoro District Police Commander upon getting the information, rushed to the scene and rescued some of the victims and evacuated them to the hospital for medical attention and the scene wqs also visited by the territorial Police detectives and was well documented.
Maate explained that some of the suspects have been identified pending their arrest and possible prosecution as investigations continue.
