President Museveni Yoweri Kaguta

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has rallied newly elected National Resistance Movement Members of Parliament to align to the party’s core ideological values in execution of their mandate to drive national development and socioeconomic transformation agenda.

President Museveni made the remarks today afternoon April 8th 2026, while officiating at the opening of the NRM Retreat that opened yesterday at National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi District.

The President congratulated them on their victory and the NRM’s strong performance and reminded them that they must address any party weaknesses to do even better.

President Museveni emphasised that they are now leaders who must deepen their understanding of ideology, philosophy and strategy in order to diagnose society’s problems and prescribe solutions saying that their generation must end poverty by creating prosperity through production, not begging or corruption and every adult must earn from producing a good or a service.

President Museveni told the Members of Parliament-elect that their elevation from mere Party supporters and carders to leaders requires them understand the clear difference between ideology, philosophy and strategy for proper guidance of their electorate

The President warned that the global conflicts scenario covering the Gulf and other parts of the world signal Africa’s urgent need to build the continent’s own security guarantees to overcome risks from the current vulnerabilities.

He noted that Africa’s need to consolidate and solidify its security preparedness against external aggression is long overdue and he has rallied the newly elected NRM MPs to advance that agenda in their discourse.

He reminded the current generational leaders of their role in fostering the prosperity of Africa, political heritage and political unity of Africa for strategic security in the four dimensions of Land, Air, Sea and Space.

President Museveni reaffirmed the essence of discipline among young political carders, discouraged alcoholism and corruption that he says is detrimental to their political careers.

During the same event, President Museveni mourned former Minister of State for Tourism and Antiquities Yafes Otim Omara and Kikuube District Chairperson Peter Banura Alaari Kyaligonza who died last week.

Today’s session was chaired by the Vice President Major Jessica Alupo Epel who reminded the newly elected Members of Parliament on their responsibility to lead their electorate and commended President Museveni for his state stewardship that has stimulated development in the country.

The retreat is being attended by the Vice President Major Jessica Alupo Epel, the Speaker of Parliament and Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt Hon Anita Annet Among, her Deputy Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa, together with Central Executive Committee Members, NRM Electoral Commission members, Prime Minister Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, and other senior party leaders.

The NRM Secretary General Hon Richard Todwong td journalists today morning that the retreat is so much engaging and thought-provoking sessions are already underway, with participants immersed in insightful lectures on key topics including mindset transformation, the fundamental change in Uganda’s politics and the rich history and enduring ideological principles of the NRM.

Hon Todwong confirmed that over 49 independent NRM leaning Members of Parliament are yet to formally sign a Memorandum of understanding with the NRM Party.
