President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today welcomed and held a meeting with the former President of the Republic of Tanzania His Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete who is the current African Union High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
President Museveni and his Guest discussed the situation in South Sudan and emphasized the importance of dialogue among the parties.
President Museveni told Kikwete that Uganda will continue supporting peace efforts as stability in South Sudan, especially in the Equatorial region where many Ugandans live, is important for regional security and prosperity.
His Excellency Kikwete was appointed the African Union (AU) High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea on March 25th 2026, by AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
He facilitates dialogue, prevents conflict and secures critical shipping lanes in this strategic region and he is engaged in mediation to address complex peace and security dynamics in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea corridor.
He is leading African Union initiatives to resolve disputes in the region and fostering regional cooperation working with bodies like the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the East African Community (EAC).
On the International Coordination, Jakaya Kikwete is also collaborating with global partners and the UN to enhance stability and security in the region.
Kikwete’s appointment is designed to stabilize a region vital to global commerce, addressing ongoing political challenges and promoting lasting peace.
