
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has unveiled a monument in Kabale Municipality to honor fallen NRA/M liberation war heroes from Kigezi Sub region and beyond who were executed by Idi Amin in the formative stages of Uganda’s Liberation strides on the 10th February 1973.
President Museveni listed several other victims of the Idi Amin atrocities in area of Mbarara, Fort Portal, Kampala, Jinja, Mbale and Gulu upon whom he says the Tarehe Sita is anchored.
While speaking at the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary at National Teachers Grounds in Kabale Municipality in Kigezi Sub region yesterday, President Museveni said that there has been some elements who wanted to disrupt the election and noted that the UPDF did a great job to stop plans by trouble makers and for ensuring a very peaceful post election period in the country and maintained an enabling business environment.

The event was held under the theme “Defending the gains of the revolution and honoring the sacrifice of the freedom fighters: A call for National Unity, peace and socioeconomic transformation
President Museveni confirmed that the government is planning 2 additional international Airports for Kigezi and Ankore Sub regions and plans scaleup Kisoro Airport to international status to be established in Kabale District for tourism operations and another in Mbarara city for trade and business that he says will be bigger than Entebe International Airport.
He said that Kigezi Sub region is planned for massive development initiatives in tourism where additional Tarmac roads and lined up just as been the case in several other areas across the country.
President Museveni who was accompanied by his wife Janet Museveni who is also the Minister of Education and Sports tipped residents of Kigezi Sub region to harness the use of fertilizers and irrigation to boost their agricultural yields as challenged to adopt high value crops.

President Museveni further called for land acquisition in Rubanda district to establish a massive iron ore factory to expedite extraction and processing of that mineral resource with high concentration in Kigezi Sub region following his earlier communication to area leaders and communities of government plans to support exploitation of iron ore reserves in the Sub region.
He revealed plans to scaleup investments in Agro processing and fish farming in Kigezi Sub region so that the locals can also benefit from the multiplier effect of economic scales.
While speaking at the same event, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba said that the 2026 General elections were the most peaceful elections in Uganda and has congratulated Ugandans and President – elect General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the successful election period.
Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba notes that Uganda’s Democratic trajectory has grown steadily as Ugandans vote for leaders of their choice as seen in the recently concluded General elections and he has pledged the UPDF’s commitment to safeguard Uganda’s development achievements henceforth and pplauded all security agencies for the extraordinary role they continue to play to ensure peace and stability in the country.
The Chief of Defence Forces has challenged Ugandans to harness the prevailing peace and stability in the country for socioeconomic transformation and warned a handful of individuals threatening to cause chaos and disruption and unveiled plans to further the improvement of welfare of officers of the UPDF in a bid to enhance proficiency.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba elaborated on a number of security operations countrywide intended to wipe out pockets of threats including the Karacuna raiders in Karamoja Sub region
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced the initiation of Awards for the best low ranking officers in UPDF ranking from Lieutenant to Major intended to acknowledge their outstanding professionalism and competence.
The Award dubbed “CDF Awards” seeks nominees from across the sections evaluated on the 22 assessment qualities of UPDF officers at tactical, operational and strategic levels

The maiden Award nominees were Major Kamoga Muwonge from the Special Forces Command, Captain Andrew Asio from the School of Defense and Intelligence, Lt Moses Odong from the Ground Airbase Regiment and Shem Bagiragye from Land Forces and the Overall winner was Lt Moses Odong and was given a prize of Ugx 10 million for his extraordinary work.
Ealier, Major General Henry Masiko, the Joint Staff Political Commissar of Uganda People’s Defence Forces narrated Tarehe Sita Anniversary formed and how Idi Amin executed liberation fighters in the 1970s.
He remunerated the many projects, the UPDF has executed in Kigezi Sub region during the last two months which included the construction of classroom blocks, pit latrines and bridges in various districts in Kigezi Sub region.
The function was graced by a cross section of people from Kigezi Sub region who included the Bishop of Kabale Diocese Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira, the Bishop of Diocese of Kigezi Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna and the Bishop of Diocese of Kinkizi Rt Rev Dan Zoreka and the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Kabale District Khadhi among many others.
The occasion was spiced by a UPDF, Uganda Police, Uganda Prisons and Uganda Wildlife Authority colourful military parade.
