Rubanda District authorities, led by District RDC Kyeyune Senyonjo, on Monday, 7th September, launched the construction of the 9km Nyanamo–Rwaburaro–Kabaya–Mundeka–Mushunga–Nshanjare Road connecting Nshanjare Town Council and Muko Sub-county in Rubanda West, worth Shs 40 million.

Speaking during the launch in Kabaya Cell, RDC Kyeyune Senyonjo warned machine operators against stealing fuel and drinking alcohol while on duty.

He urged locals to report any such cases and called upon residents to own the 9km road by practicing better farming methods and participating in _Burungi Bwansi_.

He further challenged PDM beneficiaries to start repaying, noting that the program is a revolving fund meant to benefit more people.

District Engineer Habimana John said construction will last only two weeks and challenged residents to cooperate with machine operators.

Local leaders, led by Nshanjare Town Council LC5 Male Councilor Hon. Amos Byaruhanga and Mayor Bizimark Kobusheshe, said they have been carrying patients on their backs and opting for Kisoro District over Rubanda due to the lack of a road.

They added that farmers were being exploited by businessmen who buy crops cheaply from gardens due to the absence of a road, as most of the money would be wasted on carrying produce on the head to the main road.

Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba, represented by District Vice Chairperson Hon. Akampurira Kesaferi Prossy, lauded locals for opening the road themselves and thanked farmers for offering their land for the road passage.

She challenged District Engineer Habimana John to supervise machine operators to deliver quality work on time.

Akampurira added that farmers have been getting little from their yields as most of the earnings were spent on head transport. She further said the road will connect the community to public service centres such as schools, markets, churches, and health centres.

Rubanda District Chief Administrative Officer Samuel Ahabwe assured the people of Rubanda that the district technical team remains committed to ensuring government programmes and projects are translated into tangible services and infrastructure that improve people’s lives.

He thanked the RDC and security committee members, the district political leadership, the technical team, and, most importantly, the communities for being part of this important occasion.

“Today’s launch marks the beginning of serious implementation, effective supervision, and responsible ownership. We have launched the projects today; let us now deliver them,” Ahabwe said.
