NEWS– The territorial police in Rubanda are hunting for one Salimu Joventa 35-year-old who allegedly murdered a 50-year-old husband, Andrew Byomugabe a nurse resident of Ndego trading center Kashasha parish Ikumba sub county Rubanda district.

According to Kigezi Region Police spokesman ASP Elly Maate, it is alleged that on 1st May 2025 at around 6Pm, Hillary Akampumuza, a son to the Deceased got the phone of a neighbour and called his step mother Atuheire Praize and informed her as his father is in the house dead.

The step mother, who stays in Nyamabare also started calling the phone of the husband but it was off, continued to call neighbors of the husband sending them to check for her.

That’s when they asked whereabouts of the husband, but Joventa told them that he went to sell timbers in Mbarara.

Maate added that people kept on coming asking until the  Ikumba sub county boss Wensi also came to ask and together others broke the door to the bed room where they found Andrew lying dead in a pool of blood next to patients’ bed tied with a grey sweater on the head.

In the process, the suspect ran away as it was already dark.

Maate told the press that the police were alerted, a case of murder was registered at Rubanda police station, scene was visited, processed and documented.

According to the police, no Exhibit was recovered at the crime scene and a postmortem was done at the scene.

 Community policing was also done at the scene and the body handed over to the relatives for burial.
