NEWS- Rukungiri District National Resistance Movement leaders early this week expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa and the National Resistance Movement Chairman for reappointing the Rujumbura County Legislator Hon. Major Gen Jim Muhwezi Katugugu as the Country’s Security Minister in the recent cabinet reshuffle.

Donned in Yellow T-shirts bearing Museveni and Jim Muhwezi photographs, the leaders and party supporters congregated in Rukungiri main stadium where they started their celebration movement passed the streets to the District headquarters up to Rukungiri Inn, where the main event was held.

The chairperson Rukungiri NRM foot soldiers, Edwin Kutesa Kaziriri who were the main organisers of the event expressed endless appreciation to President Museveni for re-assigning the son of the soil Jim Muhwezi Katugugu as a Minister especially in a sensitive position of ensuring the Country’s Security.

Kutesa who couldn’t hide his happiness stressed that it was indeed important to celebrate this milestone asserting that the reappointment means that Minister Jim Muhwezi is being thanked for all of the accomplishments in his tenure not only in his security docket but even in the health and education sectors.

He congratulated Jim Muhwezi upon his reappointment and together with fellow youths also pledged to support His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the entire NRM candidates in the district with over 95% in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.

Other Members of Rukungiri NRM Foot soldiers including Mugabe Moses and Sonia Akankwatsa, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for keeping Jim Muhwezi as a Minister, stressing that his reappointment to the Security Ministry is a significant reward for his numerous accomplishments in matters of national security.

Akankwasa and Mugabe added that now that Muhwezi has been reappointed, it’s easier for the Rukungiri community to get more services since most of the lobbying is done in cabinet calling upon the entire community to receive this reappointment for a good cause.

The Rukungiri District boss Geoffrey Kyomukama, who was the day’s chief guest attributed Minister Muhwezi’s reappointment to the support Rukungiri district rendered to President Museveni and the NRM party in 2021 general elections.

Kyomukama pointed out that President Museveni garnered 71.4% in the 2021 general election compared to 47% they had registered in 2016, a big positive stretch attributed to Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi who is the District Party Chairperson.

Kyomukama emphasized the significance of having a minister from Rukungiri district, stating that it facilitates the district’s easy access to national resources and aids in government lobbying, ultimately enhancing service delivery.

“Your hard work towards service delivery for the electorate and the country has paid off. As Rukungiri district leadership, we congratulate you Minister Jim Muhwezi upon your reappointment as the Minister of Security. Please continue serving diligently. We thank President Museveni for reappointing you. Your reappointment is a sign that President Museveni loves the People of Rukungiri’said Kyomukama.

Steven Nsubunga Bewayo, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude to President Museveni for retaining Minister Jim Muhwezi in his cabinet amidst other ministerial changes.

Bewayo acknowledged the importance of Minister Muhwezi’s reappointment for Rukungiri’s development calling on the public to welcome the reappointment as an opportunity at their hand.

Representing the lower local council chairpersons, Wednesday Twinomujuni of Nyakishenyi Sub County and Constance Tumusiime of Rukungiri municipality respectively, congratulated Jim Muhwezi upon his reappointment and expressed their commitment to collaborating with him for the development of Rukungiri district.

Byaruhanga Chrysostom aka Rwakana, the Rukungiri district business community hailed Minister Jim Muhwezi for ensuring tight security of the country pointing out that they can transact business freely due to the peace and stability ushered in by the NRM government pledging their support to their leaders for the continued progress of this country’s development.

The function was also graced by representatives from the office of the District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Midius Natukunda Kaharata and those from the Municipality legislator’s Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa who all were grateful for the reappointment.

Last week, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni reshuffled Cabinet, dropping some Minister especially those in Karamoja iron sheet saga, Gorreti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu as well as bringing new faces on board including PLU’s Barham Barugahara, Lillian Aber, Phionah Nyamutoro among others.

It should be noted that earlier this week, the Appointments Committee of Parliament began vetting ministers appointed by President Museveni. The Committee, which conducts its business in camera, is chaired by Speaker Anita Among.

It has so far vetted the State Minister for Youth, Balam Barugahara; Kitgum Woman MP Lillian Aber, the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees; and the Minister in charge of Northern Uganda, Kenneth Omona.
