Deputy Director Chief Political Commissariat Hilary Kulayigye opening the training

A total of 25 Uganda Police Officers are undergoing a two-week training-of-trainers course on Gender based violence (GBV) and violence against children with specific reference to child marriage in Kamwokya, a Kampala Surbab.

The participating officers were drawn from Police Training Schools of Kabalye, Olillim and Ikafe Police Training Schools, Command and Staff College Bwebajja and Child and Family protection officers from across the country.

The training’s objective is to enhance officers’ capacity to handle Gendee Based Violence and Violence Against Children cases professionally, promoting a multiplier effect in addressing these issues nationwide.

The Training Course was officially opened by the he Deputy Director Chief Political Commissariat who urged the officers to put the knowledge and skills acquired to end violence against children and Gender Based violence and also professionally handle cases that fall under this discipline.

He thanked the Centre for Domestic violence Prevention Uganda (CEDOVIP), an Non-Government Organization specializing in addressing domestic violence issues for partnering with the Uganda Police Force to train officers.

The head of the Child and Family Protection Department (CFPD) in the Uganda Police Force Ms Maureen Atuhaire, said that the training is crucial and will equip the participants with skills of how to train other Police Officers on how to handle Gender Based Violence victims.

They handle child and family related matters and in most cases engage the parents and couples in settling and coming to an agreement on how their children or relationship can be maintained.
