scene of the accident where Bus registration number UBM 707X heading to Kabale overturned

The Police in Rukiga have registered an accident involving motorvehicle registration number UBM 707X Bus belonging to Gateway Bus Company that left several passenger and a female pedestrian seriously injured.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate confirmed the accident and said that it took place at Rwabahazi Cell in Muhanga Town Council along Ntugamo – Kabale Highway in Rukiga district.

Maate identified the injured pedestrian as 77 year old Rwakinda Dafroza Tumushabe a resident Nyakabungo Cell in Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District, 54 year old Balabye Karim who was the driver of the bus Involved in the crash and a resident of Bugembe  in Jinja District, 40 year old Kyomuhangi Assumpta, a businesswoman and a Nansana Wakiso District.

Others include 18 year old Nowamani Ronnie a student Nansana in Wakiso District, 14 year old Nowamani Blaire a resident of Kabale District, 11 year old Nowembabazi Brandon also from Kabale District , 49 yeae old Busingye Patience from Kampala and Kiconco Benson a business man and resident of Kampala.

Maate also identified the injured as 40 year old Asimwe Pauson a business man and resident of Rubanda District, 34 year old Basisha Richard from Rwanda, 21 year old Ninsima Tracey a Muhanga Town Council all who were passengers in the bus.

Maate told journalists that it’s alleged that the bus was coming from Kampala  heading to Kabale District carrying passengers on board, and when it reached at Rwabahazi Cell, the driver lost control and knocked a female pedestrian who was walking on the pavement of the road heading to Rwahi in Ntugamo District then the bus hit a water trench and over turned injuring some of the passengers and the pedestrian.

Maate said that upon learning about the accident, the scene of the accident was visited by District Traffic Officer Rukiga district and the team, documented it and sketch plan was drawn.

All the victims involved in the crash were evacuated to Rotom Health Center and others referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.

The Bus has ɓeen towed and is now parked at Rukiga Central Police Station for safe custody pending Inspector of Vehicles inspection as investigations continue.
