NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a suspected robber with whom a gun was recovered.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate disclosed that information was last evening received from citizens who called the Rukungiri Police Field Force Unit Operations Rukungiri, Tukamwesiga Nicholas, regarding a mob action at Butimba on Karegyesa road Rukungiri town involving unidentified thugs armed with a gun.
Police responded swiftly to the crime scene, where a body was found lying in a pool of blood alongside an AK-47 rifle loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition.
Maate explained that the gun was recently robbed by unknown thugs from Police Constable Adriko Benard who was guarding Kabale University – Rukungiri Branch at Nyakaina Cell Nyakaina Ward in Buyanja Town Council Rukungiri district.
Maate said that the deceased has been identified as Akampurira Marc Kamp a resident of Nyakina village Buyanja Sub County, based on a copy of his National ID found in his wallet and the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III Mortuary for postmortem examination.
Preliminary information indicate that two thugs armed with one gun earlier robbed Agaba Kenneth Hardware shop a total amount of Ugx 8 million at gun point by shooting one bullet, but fortunately didn’t injure anybody along Karegyesa Road in Rukungiri Municipality and after shooting the gun jammed.
As they fisted with the jammed gun, they decided to take off and when the wanainchi realized it, they started running after them and managed to get the one with the gun, lynched him, while the second one known to be a brother to the deceased managed to flee into hiding.
