Rwizi Regional Police Spokesman Samson Kasasira

Police in Mbarara City have launched investigations following an attempted robbery and violent attack on the Rwizi Regional Police Commander, Bangambaki Alfred, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

According to a Police statement, issued by the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesman Samson Kasasira, the incident occurred yesterday Bangambaki when he was returning to his residence in Mbaguta Cell in Ruharo Ward.

Kasasira explained that, when Bagambaki approached his gate, he was ambushed by machete-wielding thugs, some hiding near the entrance while another waited on a motorcycle along the access road who attempted to forcefully gain access to the vehicle, damaging the car windows with pangas in an effort to harm the occupants.

However, In self-defense, Bangambaki engaged the assailants, fatally injuring one of them and the one on the motorcycle  waiting nearby fled the scene immediately and during the struggle, Areeba Munda, who was in the vehicle with Bagsmbaki sustained facial injuries caused by shattered glass fragments.

The Police who arrived at the scene later transported the deceased suspect whose identity has yet to be confirmed to the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary and Security operations are ongoing to track down the motorcycle rider and any other individuals connected to the attack.
