NEWS- The Police in Rubanda district have registered a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a 35-year-old secondary school teacher.
The deceased has been identified as Tumukunde Zefurino, a teacher at Nyabikoni Secondary School in Kabale Municipality and a resident of Mukasa village, Nyarurambi parish, Muko sub-county in Rubanda district.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, the tragic accident happened on 3rd November 2023 at around 7:30pm at Harutenga along Kabale-Kisoro road in Rubanda district.
Maate told the press that Motorvehicle reg number UAX 473M Toyota premio, driven by Rwigyema Fred, 71 year old businessman, resident of Murore A, Nyakabungo ward, Rubanda town council in Rubanda district, collided with a Motorcycle registration number UDE 703D Koremoto which was being ridden by the deceased.
Additionally, Maate revealed that the accident was caused by reckless driving by the motorvehicle driver, who crossed from his lane and occupied the opposite one from where he collided head-on with the oncoming motorcyclist.
Maate told our reporter that the scene was visited, documented, and both the motor vehicle and cycle were towed from the scene and parked at Rubanda police station pending IOV inspection.
Maate further confirmed that efforts to arrest the driver, who is on a run, are underway. The fatal accident was registered at Rubanda CPS under reference number TAR 065/2023.
Relatedly, the territorial police of Kabale registered a fatal accident that claimed the life of an unidentified adult male at Kyobugombe trading center, Kaharo sub-county, along Kabale-Mbarara highway.
The Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate confirmed this incident stressing that it occurred on Friday morning at around 3:00AM involving a stationary vehicle with the number 128E/RL3057 and a motorcycle with registration number UEE 967E, being ridden by the unidentified deceased.
Maate told our reporter that as the motorcyclist was riding from the Kabale side heading towards Muhanga, upon reaching Kyobugombe, he knocked a stationary vehicle that had experienced mechanical problems on Thursday at midday and died on spot.
The Police mouthpiece added that the scene was visited by ASP Mucunguzi, OC Traffic Kabale, body retrieved and taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
Maate confirmed that the motorcycle was parked at Kabale CPS pending IOV inspection. The stationary vehicle was left at the scene, but the number plates were removed.
Maate now calls upon anyone who knows the rider of the motorcycle mentioned above to come forward and identify him so that he can be taken for burial.
