The Police in Kanungu District have registered a fatal road accident that claimed the life of one person and left two others seriously injured.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident which took place yesterday December 11th and involved motor vehicle registration number UBM 913R/ UBM 953W SINO TRUCK driven by Dan Nsubuga a resident of Lugazi Buikwe district, who was injured and Motorcycle registration number UDB 411M which was being ridden by 58 year old Ivan Tukamushaba a resident of Rutoma in Bihobwalwa in Kihihi Sub-county who died on the spot.

Maate identified the second victim as 12 year old Derrick Ashemeza also a resident of Rutoma in Bihobwarwa in  Kihihi Sub-county in Kanungu district  who was a passenger on the Motorcycle.

Maate explained that it’s alleged that, while the driver of  the vehicle  was from Kanyantorogo side heading to Butogota – Bwindi, he is alleged to have been on high speed.

Maate said that on reaching around Nyamigoye Trading Center, he hit the hump and lost control knocking the motorcycle rider who was on his side from Butogota side heading to Kanyantorogo side who was carrying a male juvenile and he went off road and the rider died on spot.

The scene of the accident was visited and documented by Police Officers and body of the deceased was delivered to Kihihi Health Center IV Mortuary for postmortem examination and the victims were rushed to the nearest clinic in Butogota for treatment.

Maate disclosed that the Motorcycle is parked at Kihihi Police Station pending Inslector of Vehicles inspection and the Motor vehicle still at the scene pending break down to be towed to Kihihi Police Station.

Maate revealed that preliminary cause of the accident was attributed to over speeding and reckless driving of the truck driver, because he avoided driving as per the highway traffic code guidelines.
