NEWS- Eleven cows suspected to be having anthrax have been buried in Kasese District to curtail the spread of the Disease to the population.

The information was revealed by the District Veterinary officer Dr. Yusuf Kibaya while talking to the media at his office in Rukoki at the District head quarters.

Dr. Kibaya says most affected were buried in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council because of the cattle holding ground, others were buried in Bulembia Division and others at the abattoir in the central Division.

Last week, Kasese district authorities launched a fresh fight against the consumption of sanga meat in an attempt to prevent the spread of anthrax that has been reported in some districts of Uganda.

The resolution was reached during an emergency District Taskforce Meeting that was aimed at forging the means of preventing anthrax, a disease that is  transmitted from animals to people or vice versa.

Anthrax outbreak was confirmed on 29 November in Kabira, Kasasa and Lwankoni sub counties of Kyotera district.

The constituencies that are mentioned for leading in the consumption of sanga include Bukonzo County East and West.

He now asks the community to deist from consuming meat without any clearance from the authorized personnel.

SP Luke Mbusa the acting Rwenzori East Region police spokesperson noted that soon they are going to engage the LCIII chairpersons across the District to join the fight against consumption of meat from unclear sources.
