NEWS- Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, the National Water and Sewage Cooperation Deputy Managing Director incharge of Finance and Corporate Strategy has distributed 35,000 hoes and pangas to enhance agricultural productivity among households as part of her efforts to empower the community in Rukiga District.
The distribution campaign, which commenced in January 2024 throughout the entire district, came to climax on Thursday January 11th 2024 in Kamwezi Sub County with a primary goal to empower households, fostering economic and social well-being by encouraging increased participation in agriculture.
Ms. Maureen Kyarisiima, the Personal Assistant to Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, emphasized that the main objective of the campaign is to empower households, enabling them to overcome poverty and transition into a money-based economy.
Kyarisiima dismissed claims of the initiative being an early campaign strategy, highlighting Dr. Sylvia’s longstanding commitment to driving positive change in the community. Kyarisima referenced the Deputy Managing Director’s previous projects aimed at improving household income in Rukiga District.
Gibs Barigayomwe, the Youth Chairperson of Rukiga District, urged the beneficiaries to utilize the tools effectively for planting and harvesting both food and cash crops. He emphasized that the proper use of the donated tools could significantly contribute to improving household income and reducing poverty.
Beneficiaries from Kamwezi Sub County, including Charles Twinomujuni, Mable Busingye, and Herbert Tusiime, expressed their gratitude for the hoes and pangas. They believe these tools will play a crucial role in tending to their gardens, ultimately leading to increased agricultural production in their households.
Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe has consistently demonstrated her commitment to uplifting household incomes through strategic investments in agriculture. In September of the previous year, she spearheaded the distribution of approximately 5 million coffee seedlings across the entire Rukiga District.
