NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district have retrieved a gun that was recently stolen from a millennium security company guard within town.

The retrieval followed a call up by a vigilant resident of Butagatsi cell, Kinyasano Ward, Rukungiri district on Wednesday January 31st, 2024.

According to the KIgezi region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the incident unfolded at approximately 1:50PM when a Good Samaritan, who was busy tending to her garden, made a startling discovery.

Maate told the press that the concerned citizen promptly contacted the local Police after spotting a firearm concealed in a small bush alongside the road from Kakabada to Farmers, behind the Rukungiri district administration block.

Upon arrival at the scene, the law enforcement team meticulously documented it and gathered statements from eyewitnesses. To their astonishment, it was revealed that the recovered firearm was the same one reported stolen on January 19, 2024, by Mugyenyi Eligio.

Eligio, a security guard affiliated with Millennium Security Ltd, had reported the theft of the firearm with the identification UG PSO -07318- 03821, via case reference number CRB 061/2024. The firearm’s recovery has sparked a renewed focus on the ongoing police investigation into the initial theft.

Authorities are working diligently to piece together the events surrounding the gun’s disappearance and its subsequent discovery.

In a statement, Maate assured the public that inquiries are still ongoing to uncover any potential connections to criminal activities and commended the vigilant resident for her swift action, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining public safety.

As investigations continue, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the local authorities.

The recovered firearm will undergo forensic analysis to gather additional evidence that may aid in solving the case and bringing those responsible for the theft to justice according to ASP Elly Maate.
