UWA has launched investigations into the deaths of three sub-adult lions inside Queen Elizabeth National Park.
According to a statement released by the authority,the incident was detected today morning using Earth Ranger Technology and guided by satellite signals from a collared lion after observing unusual movement patterns.
The authority says Upon reaching the location, they found three sub-adult lions including two males and one female dead.
The authority also reveals that upon follow up searches, they found a cow carcass within the same area with a portion of the carcass placed in a bag containing unknown substances, while the remaining part was left exposed.
The authority also recovered additional items including a panga and slippers near the carcass and they will form part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of death of three lions and the identification of those involved with a view of prosecuting them in accordance with the law.
The authority says that the police in Kasese has been notified and both agencies are working closely to examine the evidence and pursue investigative leads.
The authority has asked the public to support Uganda’s conservation efforts by being vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities that may endanger wildlife .
