ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesman

NEWS- The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 60 years old woman identified as Speria Mbabazi, a resident of Kasiizi village in Muramba Parish in Rutenga Sub-county.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that its alleged that the deceased left Kakyere Trading Center on Sunday May 26th 2024 and was ambushed on her way about 150 meters to her home and strangled to death using a piece of cloth.

Maate explained that it was suspected that the deceased had money on her since she had sold part of her land at Ugx 2 million and had been seen with her biological son identified as Abel Tusasibwe at the Trading Center buying clothes and other items.

The Police were notified and visited the scene with the Police sniffer dog, which managed to track down two suspects who were arrested and are in custody to help in investigations and a postmortem examination was done and body handed over to relatives for a decent burial.

Maate did not disclose the identity of the arrested suspects but said that a case of murder was registered at Kanungu Central Police Station under reference number CRB 345/2024 to help officers in investigations.

In another development, the Police in Kabale District are hunting for suspects who allegedly murdered an unidentified female adult, whose body was discovered at Buhoro village in Buhara Sub-county.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that it is alleged that that the incident took place on Monday 27th May 2024 at Buhoro village in Buhara Sub-county, Kabale district when unknown suspects, with malice forethought, caused death of yet to be identified female adult person.

Maate explained that the information of this incident was given by Ainembabazi Geradin at Rwene Police Post where Officers alerted the District CID officer Kabale.

Maate said that the scene was visited and documented by the District CID officer and team and the dead body was found with bruises on the legs, eyes and arms a few meters to Uganda Rwanda border line and the body was retrieved and conveyed to Kabale Regional referral hospital for postmortem.

The Police have since launched efforts to have suspects known and arrested and appealed to anyone whose relative is missing to visit the Hospital Mortuary so that the deceased is identified and taken for a decent burial and whoever may be having clues that can lead to those behind the murder should volunteer it so that suspects are brought to book and the case murder was registered at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number CRB 427/2024.
