newly appointed Chairperson of Association of African Development Finance Institutions Dr Patricia Ojangole

Uganda Development Bank’s Managing Director, Ms Patricia Ojangole has been appointed Chairperson of the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI).

Ms Ojangole appointment was confirmed during the 51st Ordinary General Assembly of AADFI, held on May 26th 2025, at the Sofitel Hotel Ivoire in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as part of the Association’s Annual General Assembly and the celebration of its 50th Anniversary.

A citation from Association of African Development Finance Institutions indicated that Dr Ojangole distinguished herself as the First Vice Chairperson of Association of African Development Finance Institutions from 2019 to 2025, and her elevation to Chairperson marks a historic moment and she is the first woman to hold this esteemed position since the Association’s inception.

“Her leadership reflects Uganda Development Bank’s commitment to excellence, inclusion and transformative development across Africa.” the citation added.

The former Chairman of Uganda Investment Authority Morrison Rwakakamba who has worked closely with Ms Ojangole had this to say upon her appointment, “No rest as she pushes for single digit lowest price of money for youth, women businesses, potential and big employers, innovators, manufacturers and start ups. High price of money remains hindrance to viability scale and competitiveness of businesses in Africa. Now you have a great platform Dr Patricia Ojangole to mobilize low cost capital in many conventional and non-conventional places for Uganda and Africa”

The Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI) is an umbrella organization for development finance institutions in Africa, created under the auspices of the African Development Bank in 1975.

The objectives of the Association are to stimulate cooperation for the promotion and financing of sustainable development in Africa and to encourage the process of economic integration in the African region.

The Association of African Development Finance Institutions has over 80-member institutions made up of national, regional and multilateral development finance institutions in Africa and from other continents engaged in development finance activities in Africa.
