The newly elected Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Rukungiri District Chairman Hajji Sowedi Munyefu has started the familiarisation of all Mosques in the district with a call of Unity among the Muslims and support for resource mobilization to develop the development of Islam.

Hajji Sowedi Munyefu made the remarks yesterday while speaking at the start of the familiarisation tour at Rubabo Twale Kebisoni Mosque in Kebisoni Town Council in Rukungiri where he assured the Muslim believers that as a leader he is ready to work with them to ensure that they have developmental projects in their communities.

Rukungiri District Uganda Muslim Supreme Council has 34 Mosques spread in the established Twales (County) of Rubabo with headquarters at Kebisoni Mosque, Rujumbura with Headquarters at Rukungiri Mosque and Bikurungu at Bikurungu Mosque.

Hajji Munyefu who replaced Hajji Abdullah Bananuka who retired due to old age led the Rukungiri District Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Leadership that include his vice Hajji Iddi Misho, the Officer in Charge of Dawa Sheikh Swalleh Matovu, the Officer in Charge of Planning and Development Sheikh Nshangabashaija, Sheikh Asuman Kaggwa, Delegate Sharrif Kwikiriza Banyenzaki and the Secretary General Silagi Kiconco.

He said that the familiarisation tour aims at ensuring that resources are mobilised to support Islam in Rukungiri District and asked for support as he is ready to work with the leadership team at the District and respective Mosques  

He challenged the Muslims to love and support one another, saying that intrigue and hate will not develop them.

The Vice Chairperson Iddi Misho asked the Muslims to vie for leadership positions in order to influence policy and also joinjovernment programs to create wealth in homesteads using the small land they own.

The Secretary for Planning Lands and Development Education Issah Nshabashaija hailed Kebisoni Muslims for maintaining unity saying that the District leadership has not noticed divisionism amongest them, but noticed developmental projects which must be protected and asked them to start carrying out thanksgiving events as one way of resource mobilization and also lve the Islam and work for its development.

The Education Secretary Sharrif Kwikiriza Banyenzaki who is also the District Delegate asked the Muslims to improve education in their area and said thatthey have started setting pre mock as a set piece to improve the educational standards and asked them to take their children to school

Banyenzaki called for ethics and integrity as a pillar for discipline which lays education as an important tool to further Islam saying that its good for inter connectivity of secular society.

He also warned parents to stop their teenage daughters for marriage before they completed the education cycle and attaining lifeskills saying that uneducated women unlike men are burden.

Kebisoni Town Council Chairman elect Leonard Muhunguzi Tiberondwa who was the Chief Guest, thanked the Muslim community for supporting him in the elections and pledged to work with them in any developmental projects when called upon.

Muhunguzi asked the Muslim Leaders to develop and put in place workplans to be implemented in their communities that benefits the Muslim and all other people saying that when such work are available they give the right direction to their development.

While receiving the team, the Chairman of Rubabo Twale Management Team Majid Mugisha Ngundu said that they have started rigorous mobilization of Muslims to ensure that they support the development of Islam in the Area.

The Twale Chairman Suleiman Bwengye welcomed Hajji Munyefu and pledged to support him and ensure that Islam is developed in the area.

During the function, a total of Ugx 1.8 million was raised with an aim of developing the activities of Islam at the Kebisoni Mosque.
