The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has officially inaugurated the new leadership for the UPDF National Referral Hospital in Mbuya, appointing Col Ronald Nangamba as Chief Executive Officer and Col Dr John Lusiba as his Deputy.
While presiding over the inaugural meeting, the Joint Staff of Health Services, Maj Gen Ambrose Musinguzi urged the new leadership to prioritise international accreditation and uphold high standards as the hospital prepares for its official opening in October.
He described the hospital as the apex of UPDF’s referral system and a key welfare project that has continued to receive strong support from the Defence leadership.
Maj Gen Musinguzi commended the UPDF leadership for consistently backing the project, saying issues affecting the hospital have always been addressed promptly and decisively.
He urged the incoming leadership to focus on timely procurement processes to improve service delivery while maintaining affordability and effectiveness.
Meanwhile the Chief of Staff – Air Force, Brig Gen David Gonyi, has called on spouses of Air Force personnel to remain vigilant and avoid being swayed by divisive and deceptive political rhetoric ahead of the upcoming elections.
While speaking during a symposium held at the Air Force Headquarters in Entebbe, Brig Gen Gonyi urged the spouses not to be swayed by candidates who promote tribalism and division.
The symposium, organised by the Air Force Political Commissariat, aimed to equip families of soldiers with a sound understanding of political ideology and national unity.
He encouraged them to emulate the teamwork demonstrated by their partners in uniform and urged the families to take advantage of initiatives in the education sector for both soldiers’ children and the general public, and the Presidential Support Fund which he said is aimed at improving the welfare of soldiers’ families.
Brig Gen Gonyi encouraged military families to utilise military facilities, warning against the financial burden of seeking expensive private services when military institutions offer quality alternatives.
The Chairperson of the Air Force Soldiers’ Spouses, Ms Lynette Lucy urged fellow spouses to support their partners’ decisions, noting that soldiers often make sacrifices informed by a broader national interest and the symposium was attended by senior commanders, directors, and department heads from across the Air Force and spouses of soldiers.
