The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Tarehe Sita team, led by the Joint Staff Political Commissariat, Major General Henry Masiko, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira.

The meeting, held at the Kabale Diocesan headquarters, focused on the critical role of faith-based institutions in providing moral guidance, promoting social development, and strengthening national cohesion.

While addressing the meeting, Maj Gen Masiko emphasized the UPDF’s recognition of the Church’s role in guiding communities and supporting national development efforts.

He commended the Bishop for his visionary leadership, particularly the establishment of the Bishop Annual Appeal Fund, which has supported development initiatives across Kabale Diocese and it has strengthened parish-level self-reliance and directly addressed critical needs in education, health, livelihoods and social welfare.

He further thanked the Bishop for encouraging religious leaders to participate in a recent three-day ideological training symposium that brought together leaders from various denominations saying that such engagements provide a vital platform for dialogue on national values, patriotism, and socio-economic transformation, and they contribute significantly to nation-building.

In his remarks, Bishop Rubaramira expressed gratitude to the UPDF for the courtesy visit and reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to peacebuilding and community empowerment.

Meanwhile the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces will today Commission and handover all the projects that have been constructed under the arrangement of Tarehe Sita in all the districts of Kigezi.

According to the UPDF 2nd Infantry Division Spokesman Maj Kiconco Tabaro, in Kanungu District, the Army will hand over 2 Classroom block at Kangarame Primary School and a 5-Stance Latrine at Kishenyi Primary School in Kanyantorogo Sub County. 

Other projects to he handed over today by the UPDF include the famous Kihanda-Kambuga Bridge, Footpath Bridge in Mukishanda that connects Kihihi Town Council to Nyakinoni and Katete Sub-Counties which will ease transport and trade.
