NEWS- Two people have died suddenly after they were covered by soil in a mining quarry.

The two are Mwikirize Rosette, a 28 year old peasant and her 10 year old daughter Abeneitwe Berinah, all residents of Hamuganda village  Bukora parish Kitumba sub county Kabale district.

ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region police spokesman told the press that on 11th December 2023, at around 1:30Pm at Hamuganda village while the two were in quarry mining sand and in the process of mining, the soil cracked, fell killing them from therein.

Maate added that a report of sudden death was registered at Kitumba police station vide sd ref: 06/11/12/2023.

The Kabale Homicide team, police surgeon Kigezi region led by the D/CID/O D/SP Mukama Hakim, visited the scene, examined and documented it, recorded statements from the witnesses and Postmortem was done at the site of discovery of the bodies.

Meanwhile, the Police in Kabale district have arrested Julius Tabu for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 4 year old girl.

As reported at Katuna Police Station by Kwehangana Obed 49, area chairman of Rwampiri cell , Katuna town council, Kabale district, it’s alleged that on 7th December 2023 at around 12am at Rwampiri cell, Katuna town council, the suspect called the victim together with her two other friends to collect passion fruits.

Upon reaching his place, he sent the friends to go and collect fruits from outside where he remained with the victim in the house and eventually defiled her. 

Scene of crime was visited and documented, relevant statements from witnesses obtained, victim examined and suspect arrested & in police custody.
