The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi Rt Rev George Bagamuhunda has commended the Church Missionary Society for its good history of establishment of schools which helped in nurturing many Ugandans who now hold big government positions.
He was speaking at St Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama, as the Diocese hosted Rev James Stanley Smith and Christopher Stanley Smith, a son and grandson respectively to the late Dr Alganon Stanley Smith who founded Kigezi High School in 1922 under Church Missionary Society, as the school marked 98 years in existence.
Church Missionary society also founded Hornby Girls’ High school, Kigezi high school primary among other schools and is also founders of Rugarama hospital and Kisiizi hospital.
Bishop Bagamuhunda said that during those years in 1990’s there was no roads for the easy access to the region but Church Missionary Society willingly travelled and started schools and spread the word of God which nurtured many Ugandans through Education who now hold big government positions. He asked Christians to emulate the achievements of church missionary society if they are to leave legacy in the community.
Rev Stanley Smith asked administrators of all the projects of Church missionary society to protect them in order to keep remembered in the history of Uganda. The Chairperson Kigezi high school Old Students Association steering committee, Alfred Kabuchu said that they intend to improve the standards of the school in order to maintain its good history of being the first church missionary school in Kigezi region to emulate their legacy. He added that they want it to be in the top 10 best schools in the Country.
