NEWS- The Police in Mbarara City on 9th April 2024 registered a fatal road accident involving UBK 493T Toyota Wish and H4DF 1162TATA belonging to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces UPDF along the Mbarara Bushenyi Road.
The accident according to SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesman, happened at the NARO junction, near Stabex petrol station, at four miles leading to the death of two people on spot as two others sustained injuries.
Kasasira identified the deceased persons as Akanjuna Benson and Kanyuzi Annet, both passengers in UBK 493T, although he didn’t disclose the identities of the injured victims.
Kasasira, told the press that the accident that occurred at around 1pm was as a result of the driver of the Toyota Wish who was coming from Mbarara City headed to Bushenyi side but left his lane to the extreme right due to potholes.
During the process, he collided with an oncoming UPDF motor vehicle that was coming from the opposite direction making it lose control and veered off the road before the TATA box body also overturned on the extreme right side of the road.
The deceased’s bodies were conveyed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem as the injured onews were also ferried to the same facility for medical attention.
Both motor vehicles were towed to CPS Mbarara yard pending inspection by the I.O.V.
