NEWS- Eight People have so far been confirmed dead in Kitezi landfill collapse according to the Kampala Capital City Authorities.
In an update on X, KCCA noted that with support from Uganda Police, Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry for Disaster Preparedness, Red Cross and the community, 14 people have been successfully rescued and evacuated to Mulago and St. Steven hospitals.
Their statement added that on a very sad note, 8 people have so far been found dead including 6 adults and 2 children.
“The rescue operation is still ongoing and we shall share updates as they come in” added in a statement.
It should be remembered that the Kampala Capital City Authority Landfill in Kiteezi had a structural failure in waste mass this morning resulting in a collapsed section of the landfill.
“The level of damage is still being assessed. Our teams, along with other government agencies are on ground taking the necessary measures to ensure the area is secure and to prevent any further incidents” KCCA had earlier posted on X.
They added that “We are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the community. We will update you because this is a developing story”.
