Kabale – As the race for the Ndorwa East parliamentary seat heats up ahead of the NRM party primaries, Counsel Elvis Twenda has vowed to place education, healthcare, and economic empowerment at the heart of his development agenda.

Speaking at his final campaign rally held today at Nyanja playground in Maziba Sub-county, Kabale District, Twenda emphasized the urgency of investing in education as a long-term solution to poverty and underdevelopment in the Kigezi region. Citing land scarcity as a pressing challenge in the area, he urged parents to see education as the most viable and lasting inheritance for their children.

“Kigezi doesn’t have enough land to distribute among family members,” Twenda told his supporters. “The only true legacy we can give our children is education. That is why I am committed to uplifting the standards of schools in Ndorwa East to ease the burden on both learners and their parents.”

Twenda, a lawyer by profession, also reiterated his commitment to strengthening the healthcare system. He pointed to his previous efforts in providing water tanks to local health facilities and described them as a foundation for broader improvements.

“If given the mandate, I will lobby for better-equipped medical facilities and ensure that every area without a health center or enough staff gets the support it needs,” he said.

On economic development, Twenda pledged to fight poverty by supporting income-generating initiatives, encouraging entrepreneurship, and backing small business growth.

“As a leader, I will be at the forefront of economic transformation. Together with local communities, we will find practical ways for our people to earn a living and improve their livelihoods,” he stated.

In a bid to support youth development, Twenda also promised to revamp the sports sector by establishing sports academies aimed at nurturing talent and creating employment opportunities.

“Sports can be a major source of jobs and pride for our youth. By investing in sports academies, we can develop our children’s talents and empower them to create their own futures,” he said.

Twenda also addressed the need for stronger political representation for Ndorwa East within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). He argued that the constituency has missed out on numerous government programs due to a lack of clear representation in Parliament.

“Ndorwa East has been sidelined on many government opportunities. With effective representation, we can restore our region’s name and ensure it is no longer left behind,” he concluded.

With these ambitious pledges, Counsel Elvis Twenda now sets his sights on securing victory in the upcoming NRM primaries as he positions himself as a transformative leader for Ndorwa East.
