NRM EC Boss Dr. Tanga Odoi

The National Resistance Movement Party primary elections will go on as scheduled and will take place on Thursday, 17th 2025 as earlier scheduled.

This was confirmed today by NRM Electoral Commission in a press conference that was held at the Party headquarters along Plot 10 Kyadondo Road.

The NRM Commission’s Chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi made the revelation while responding to some media reports suggesting that elections were postponed to next week.

“There were a lot of rumours that elections were postponed, but we are going to have these elections for members of parliament on Thursday, 17th, in all the 72,000 villages. To those who are candidates, please prepare as per the guidelines issued by the electoral commission,” Dr Tanga Odoi explained.

According to Dr Tanga, members will on polling day convene at the venue by 10 am, and names will be read to confirm attendance and the voting will take place between 12 noon to 2 pm by eligible voters who be lining up behind the agents, their posters or agents of the candidates.

While speaking at the same event, the NRM Secretary General Hon Richard Todwong said only members in the village register will be allowed to vote.

“If you are a candidate, don’t fail because you think there is no register. You will fail on your own because all the villages will have their registers by Thursday morning, and we shall strictly use them to choose our leaders. If you are not in the register, you will not participate,” Todwong emphasized.

Hon Todwong made it categorically clear that the party register books are already being transported to all the districts before they are distributed to the sub-counties and to all the villages and strongly cautioned the candidates against dividing the population using religion and tribes.

“We have received reports of our members using religion, tribal sentiments and a lot of money. We want to warn them to stop. Our party members should be civil and respect each other,” Todwong said.

Secretary General Todwong explained that immediately after counting, the presiding officer at every village will publicly announce the results and issue a declaration of results form duly signed by all agents of the candidates.
