Rev Justus Tibesigwa the NRM LC 5 flag bearer

The nomination of candidates for District and City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor’s and Councilors which commenced on Wednesday across the country, has today officially closed with a low turnout of aspirants at Electoral Commission offices in accordance with the commission’s calendar.

In Kanungu District, the process was conducted at the Electoral Commission offices located at the District headquarters in the council hall where several contenders successfully presented their papers.

The Electoral Commission Returning officer for Kanungu District David Mukundane, confirmed the nomination of Rev Justus Tibesigwa, the NRM flag bearer, who will contest for the LC 5 Chairperson seat with Independent candidates who inxlude Fancis Byamukama commonly known as “Kapesha” from Kayonza and Charles Asiimwe Bamuhata from Kirima.

He commended LC 5 Chairperson Candidates and Sub County/Town Council Councillors who turned up early and urged candidates preparing for the nomination of LC 3 Chairpersons at sub county levels, scheduled for 11th to 24th September to also report early to ensure a smooth process.

Shortly after the nomination, the NRM flag bearer Rev Justus Tibesigwa expressed gratitude to party President Yoweri Museveni for ensuring a peaceful and organized nomination exercise and called upon voters to support leaders like him focused on development, pledgeding to work hand- in – hand with other party members to uplift Kanungu District.

The independent aspirant Francis Byamukama who recently stepped down from contesting for Buhoma Town Council leadership after securing an NRM flag vowed to traverse the district sharing his manifesto which he said prioritizes unity and development beyond tribal divisions. 

Another independent aspirant, Charles Asiimwe Bamuhata contesting under the symbol of a book, thanked his supporters for enabling his nomination and promised to align his manifesto with the broader development agenda of the country, while addressing the needs of the people of Kanungu.
