Street kids in Uganda

The curate Kagamba Catholic parish Rev Fr Nicholas Asingwire has raised concern over the growing neglect of the boy child, warning that the failure of parents and guardians to properly groom well young boys in church could lead to the extinction of the family and serious societal consequences in the future.

Rev Fr Asingwire stressed that parents and guardians should take up the responsibility of nurturing boy children in the church as the same way it is done for girl children and stop unequal gender-based attention given to children.

Comforting the mourners during the burial of late Tumushabe Silverio alias Kamushiling of Rutooma Central Nyakibigi Ihunga sub county Kajara county Ntungamo district yesterday, this imbalance leaves boys vulnerable to, or engaged in, dangerous behaviours such as drug abuse, crime, and alcoholism, exacerbating a future shortage of responsible husbands.

According to a 2020 UBOS report, 78% of the prison population in Uganda were males, many of whom entered the criminal justice system at a young age due to a lack of support and guidance.

Rev Fr Asingwire flanked by the Kako catholic Centre catechist hailed the late Tumushabe Silverio Kamushiling for grooming all of his children to responsible citizens.

The chairman LCIII Ihunga sub county Nfunzaki Deo urged parents to keep their children in schools for a bright future and warned against criminality in the area.

The wife Edridah Knight Tumushabe described her husband late Kamushiling as a man of integrity, humility and developmental for the family.

She thanked all the people who supported them during the trying moments.

The children led by Bosco Kitemu and Ainembabazi Regina hailed their father late Tumushabe Kamushiling for producing, nurturing and educating them to be what they are now.

The late Tumushabe Silverio Kamushiling aged 66 years left a widow, four children and grandchildren.
