Mulago Hospital Executive Director says he was quoted out of context

KAMPALA– The Anti-Corruption Court sitting in Kampala and presided over by Grade One Magistrate Abert Asiimwe on Thursday granted a Ugx 10 million cash bail to former Mulago Hospital Executive Director Dr Byarugaba Baterana who faces charges of abuse of office and causing financial loss to the government.

Magistrate Asiimwe had on Monday asked for three days to review the bail application for Dr Baterana and seven others, who are charged with abuse of office and causing financial loss to the government and the court is yet to decide other seven people equally battling 18 counts related to misuse of office and causing financial loss to the taxpayer money.

The co-accused include former Mulago top administrators Eng Edward Kataha, Kenneth Wafula, Adah Kamucunguzi, Perezi Matanda, Charles Mwasa and Ponziano Nyeko who allegedly authorised payments to Setramaco Limited and Convention World Limited for services not rendered.

The owners of these companies, Ms Catherine Winifred Nabwire and Robert Wasike, were also arrested on similar charges and are yet to get bail.
