KAMPALA-  The month of March is designated as a Francophone one, and this has been marked on every one’s calendar  for those that have  keen  interest in the French culture from all over the world.

Over the weekend, it was indeed the launch of the francophone month and a series of activities, programs and  events have been lined up.

Speaking at the the launch  hosted at Alliance Francaise de  Kampala ( AFK)  Eric Touze, the Director of AFK said that  they will be celebrating the French language , richness, diversity and modernity since it is  spoken by over 300 million people world wide with common goals that include; democracy, culture , human rights,mutual recognition between people, tolerance and above all peace.

Agatha Tumwine,  President of the Association of  teachers of French  asserted that they stand for the core values of internationalisation which are multi lingualism as a skill for the next future generation so that they can have Ugandans who are able to embrace it without forgetting their indigenous languages.

Cecil Maman,  from the Cultural Department , French Embassy said

 ” French is  visibly increasing due to regional dynamics and economic integration which is evident in the the recent times and the opportunities are very immerse for us to explore”.

It was also an opportunity for grand opening of the Silence Cafe at AFk and later the guests had to wind down with the Aperitif.

Further more,  among the activities in the program will include ;  “Njogera Francais” , Job and Study Fair, Francophone  Festival and Concert.

The Francophone Month is supported by French Embassy in Uganda, AFK, Campus France, French Chamber of Commerce and many other  partners.
